Overview SSP (Sung Sim Precision) is a Korean burr manufacturer that produces aftermarket replacement burrs for most major professional grinder platforms. This 80 mm set fits the Mahlkönig and Ditting 80 mm flat burr family, including the Tanzania and the Ditting 804 / 807. It is a direct replacement for the stock burrs: same outer diameter, same bolt pattern, same alignment. What the HU geometry does in the cup HU stands for High Uniformity. The geometry is designed to produce a tight particle size distribution with a medium amount of fines. In practice, that means stable pressure during espresso extraction, a dense and well-defined body, and a high-concentration cup with classic espresso character. It is a good match for traditional espresso, medium and medium-dark roasts, and for users who want a syrupy, full-bodied shot rather than the brighter, tea-like clarity that low-uniformity burrs tend to produce. SSP also makes the same 80 mm set in an LU (Low Uniformity) geometry, which has a wider particle spread, fewer fines, and faster flow. LU leans toward filter brewing and brighter, lighter-roast espresso. If you’re unsure which to pick, HU is the more forgiving and traditional choice. About the Red Speed coating Red Speed is SSP’s TiAlCN (Titanium Aluminium Carbon Nitride) coating. It increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge, with two practical effects: the burrs stay sharp considerably longer (around 5,000 kg of coffee, vs. roughly 1,000 kg for uncoated steel) and they generate less heat during grinding, which helps preserve aromatic compounds in the bean. The coating itself doesn’t meaningfully change particle distribution; that’s set by the geometry. Specifications Diameter 80 mm Geometry HU (High Uniformity) Material Hardened tool steel Coating Red Speed (TiAlCN) Service life ~5,000 kg of coffee (coated); ~1,000 kg (uncoated) Cup profile Dense body, classic espresso, high concentration Recommended use Espresso Compatible grinders Mahlkönig Tanzania, Ditting 804, Ditting 807, original Lyn Weber EG-1 (with bolt holes) Manufacturer SSP (Sung Sim Precision), Korea SSP reference 801 A note on Weber compatibility This burr fits the original Lyn Weber EG-1, which uses the same bolt-hole mounting pattern as the Mahlkönig and Ditting 80 mm grinders. It does not fit the current Weber Workshops EG-1 or the EG-1 Ultra: those use a blind-mount (holeless) magnetic carrier and require a different burr (SSP makes a dedicated 80 mm Weber set for them). If you are unsure which generation of EG-1 you have, check whether your existing burrs have bolt holes through them. Bolt holes mean this set fits; no holes mean it doesn’t. Notes on installation Replacing 80 mm burrs on a Mahlkönig or Ditting grinder is a straightforward job for anyone comfortable opening the grinder, but you will need to dial back in afterwards and zero the burrs to find the new contact point. Most users report a brief seasoning period of 5 to 10 kg before the cup profile fully settles. Use of non-OEM burrs may affect the grinder manufacturer’s warranty, which is worth being aware of before installation.
